I’ve got my mac May this year and just recently (i.e. today or yesterday, can’t remember which) it has started being IMPOSSIBLY SLOW. It’s mainly just that pinwheel thing whenever I open a new tab or scroll too much in Safari or even when I try to open Finder. And it just keeps spinning on and on. I don’t know what the matter is. I restarted my computer and I even installed Sophos and ran a full scan for an hour only to have it tell me I had “no threats.”
I’m not really sure what to do now… someone please give me some advice. This dumb pinwheel is driving me absolutely crazy

When did you run your last software update? This often fixes problems. Click on the Apple logo, then click on Software update, you’ll get a list of software on your mac that is out of date and needs updating. Specifically if it’s your OS X that needs updating, it’s worthwhile to perform an update.
Also, uninstall any anti-virus/anti-malware software, you don’t really need it on Mac OS X, I’m not saying there aren’t viruses for mac, just saying the chances of picking on up by accident are very slim.
The other thing you can look at is how much free harddisk space you have? Cleaning up your desktop for instance can greatly increase speed, because it uses less memory.
If all else fails there’s an App called Onyx that can clean up and service your mac.
Download it here:
